Water-Jet Turn-Up System

REEL-JET™ WATER-JET TURN-UP SYSTEM

The Reel-Jet™ is a water-jet turn-up system designed for a wide range of products such as tissue, printing, coating, containerboard, linerboard, kraft, pulp and specialty grades for operation on most reel types and paper grades. The reel change system offers selective cutting profiles such as cross-cutting for heavy grades, parallel cutting for lightweight tissue grades, and other specialized methods, improving turn-up efficiency and minimizing spool core losses.

Given the technical challenge, water-jet turnup technologies perform with a high degree of reliability. Reel change systems must start and end the cutting process within a few hundred milliseconds. The reel turn-up system process starts with the initial chevron-shaped tip adhering to the spool cleanly. Once the symmetrically widening web is wound around the spool, the subsequent layers are distributed evenly and without folds until the full web width is rolled up.

The entire reel change system process unfolds without mechanical shock load, dusting, or an undesirable loss of paper on the spool.  The high-pressure water-jet contains sufficient energy to reliably cut any basis weight. The high-pressure water passes a diamond nozzle to produce a laminar, cohesive jet of ultrasonic speed. Yet the amount of water sprayed to the surface of the pope roller is small enough to leave no trace or damage to its surface. Unlike a tape turnup system, water-jet turnup technologies have no tape imprints.

Features | Water-Jet Turn-up System

  • Turn-up sealants are water soluble, repulpable, and widely accepted for consumer products
  • User-friendly operator interface with multiple configuration selections
  • Full-opening side panels for service access
  • Stainless steel construction
  • Diamond cutting nozzles for reliable jets and long-life

Advantages | Water-Jet Turn-up System

  • Compared to a tape turnup system, a symmetrical cutting profile will significantly reduce wrinkling, therefore, minimizing spool core losses
  • Easy service access simplifies maintenance and reduces the time required for troubleshooting and repairs
  • Significantly minimize loose or flying paper from the parent roll

ROI

  • Low core loss, typically less than 100 linear meters
  • Turn-up efficiency shall equal or exceed 98% for paper and 95% for hygiene
  • Increased turn-up efficiency can lead to production savings of 0.5% to 2%, resulting in a payback period of 6 to 12 months
